About Foundation
Who we are, what we believe, and the people you'll meet.
Our mission
We're taking Jesus to the world
Foundation Church exists to live and proclaim the gospel, make disciples, and reach people with the love of Christ through compassionate evangelism and outreach.
Our story
We've been Foundation Church since 2016, but our roots go back further, to a little brick building near Spencer Hospital. Today we're a diverse body of people from all kinds of backgrounds and church traditions, gathered around one thing: following Jesus together.
We're affiliated with the Iowa Ministry Network of the Assemblies of God, which gives us accountability and support. But we're not a denomination, and we don't think of ourselves as one. We believe in one God and one worldwide body of Christ that transcends every label. We're simply Christian. The essential truths we hold are below.
What we believe
We believe what the church has passed on since the beginning and does not need reinventing. The essential truths below are directly from the Nicene Creed of 381.
God
We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.
Deuteronomy 6:4 · Ephesians 4:6 · Matthew 6:9 · Genesis 1:1 · Colossians 1:15–17
Jesus
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made.
Acts 11:17 · Matthew 14:33; 16:16 · John 1:18; 3:16 · John 1:2 · Psalm 27:1 · John 8:12 · Matthew 17:2, 5 · John 17:1–5
Holy Spirit
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of Life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets.
John 14:26 · Acts 5:3–4 · Genesis 1:2 · John 15:26 · Matthew 3:16–17 · 1 Samuel 19:20 · Ezekiel 11:5, 13
Salvation
Who, for us men and for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; He suffered and was buried; and the third day He rose again.
1 Timothy 2:4–5 · John 6:33, 35 · Luke 1:35 · John 1:14 · Mark 15:25 · 1 Corinthians 15:3–4 · John 19:6 · Mark 8:31 · Luke 23:53
Baptism & Communion
And we believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins.
Ephesians 4:5 · Acts 2:38
Resurrection
And we look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come.
Isaiah 9:7 · Hebrews 9:28 · Revelation 20:11–15 · John 6:40 · Luke 23:43 · John 14:3
